Co-investigator
Principal Investigator of Family Lives and the Environment

Dr Janet Boddy is Co-investigator for Novella and the Principal Investigator of Family Lives and the Environment project. Janet is based in the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex, where she is a Reader in Child, Youth and Family Studies and Co-Director of the Centre for Innovation and Research in Childhood and Youth (CIRCY). She joined Sussex in January 2012 from the Institute of Education in London. Janet's research is concerned with family lives and with work with children and families, including studies of child health, and of mainstream and targeted services for children and families. The latter includes research examining social pedagogy as a model of education for work with children and families in continental Europe.

Janet has a particular interest in cross-national research, is currently leading two cross-national projects: a four-country European study of work with families of children placed away from home, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, and the Family Lives and the Environment study within Novella. Janet also has a particular interest in social research governance and ethics, and is involved in a range of research and advisory work in this area. In 2010, with colleagues at the Institute of Education, she completed the development of the Ethics Guidebook website, an ESRC funded resource which aims to support social scientists in navigating research ethics requirements in their research.
